ECSEL-IA
Type of action:
ECSEL-IA ECSEL Innovation Action
An ECSEL Innovation Action (IA) primarily consists of activities aiming at pilot lines, test beds, demonstrators, innovation pilots and zones of full-scale testing. These activities produce plans and arrangements or designs for new, altered or improved products, processes, methods and tools or services. For this purpose they may include prototyping, testing, demonstrating, piloting, large-scale product validation and market replication.
A ‘technology or method introduction’ aims at the development, testing, and implementation of new technologies, tools or methods, which are a critical element of innovative products, which will be created in subsequent projects.
A 'demonstration or pilot' aims to validate the technical and economic viability of a new or improved technology, product, process, service or solution in an operational (or nearly operational) environment, whether industrial or otherwise, involving, where appropriate, a larger scale prototype or demonstrator.
A 'market replication' aims to support the first application/deployment in the market of an innovation that has already been demonstrated but not yet applied/deployed in the market due to market failures/barriers to uptake. 'Market replication' does not cover multiple applications in the market of an innovation that has already been applied successfully once in the market. 'First' means new at least to Europe or new at least to the application sector in question. Often such projects involve a validation of technical and economic performance at system level in real life operating conditions provided by the market.

ECSEL-RIA ECSEL Research and Innovation Action
An ECSEL Research and Innovation Action (RIA) primarily consists of activities aiming to establish new knowledge and/or to explore the feasibility of a new or improved technology, product, process, service, method, tool or solution. For this purpose they may include applied research, technology development and/or method/tool and integration, testing and validation on a small-scale prototype in a laboratory or simulated environment. The activities have their centre of gravity at TRL 3-4.
Projects on particular topics such as the ones discussed in the Long Term Vision chapter of the MASP naturally have activities in the lower TRLs.
The FOCUS AREAS/ TOPICS/ MAJOR CHALLENGES OPEN in this Call are indicated in the Annex 6 of the ECSEL Work Plan 2020. Important challenges proposed by the LIASEs of the ECSEL Lighthouse Initiatives and by the European Commission are described in the Annex 9 of the ECSEL Work Plan 2020.

Cluster facilitated projects for new industrial value chains
Type of action:
Topic Description:
Specific Challenge:
To develop new cross-sectoral industrial value chains across the EU, by building upon the innovation potential of SMEs. The EU needs to support the development of emerging industries, which will provide the growth and employment of the future. The reindustrialisation of the EU's industrial base has to focus on the development of long-term internationally competitive goods and services that require combining different competences and innovative solutions. The development of new industrial value chains calls for the collaboration and integration of different innovation actors, including large enterprises and especially SMEs, across different sectors towards the implementation of a joint vision.
SMEs need help to generate, take up and better capitalise on all forms of knowledge, creativity, craftsmanship and innovation - including for the application of existing crosscutting or emerging technologies, advanced manufacturing, ICT, eco-innovative and resource- efficient solutions, new business models, service innovation and design. The potential of clusters - that represent favourable ecosystems for innovation and entrepreneurship - need to be better exploited in this respect.
Scope:
Cross-border and cross-sectoral collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship across different regions and value chains shall be promoted. The coordination and facilitation shall be led by cluster organisations and other intermediary organisations, by following a systemic approach that combines different resources, tools and instruments. Innovation actors, especially SMEs with mutually reinforcing competences, shall be supported in view of creating new industrial value chains that foster the development of emerging industries in Europe.
Deadline: 02 April 2020, 17:00 Brussels time
2nd stage Deadline: 08 September 2020, 17:00 Brussels time

Horizon 2020 – Das Rahmenprogramm der EU für Forschung und Innovation
Das Rahmenprogramm Horizon 2020 hat für die Jahre 2014 bis 2020 diese Schwerpunkte:
- Future&Emerging Technologies (2,7 BEuro)
- Enabling&industrial technologies (ICT, nano & new materials, biotechnologies, space) (13,5 BEuro)
- Access to Risk Finance (2,9 BEuro)
- Innovation in SMEs (0,6 BEuro)
- Tackling societal challenges (29,7 BEuro): u.a.

2021 EURIPIDES² / PENTA Synchronised Call
After the success of the 2019 and 2020 joint initiatives, the two EUREKA-funded Clusters dedicated to collaborative industrial innovation - EURIPIDES² and PENTA - will once again join forces to launch a 2021 Call, which will close on 26 February 2021.
CALL FOCUS
The three European industry associations - AENEAS, ARTEMIS-IA and EPoSS - representing large companies, SMEs, universities and research institutes from across the entire Electronic Components and Systems (ECS) value chain have joined together to produce a common Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) 2020. This common framework for Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) identifies 10 chapters which together address the 5 essential capabilities required to meet the 5 key application needs, and the 11th chapter addressing the long-term vision.
This ECS-SRA drives the PENTA & EURIPIDES² programmes in the following focus areas:
Key application areas
- Transport and Smart Mobility
- Health and Well-Being
- Energy
- Digital Industry
- Digital Life
Essential capabilities
- Systems and Components:
Architecture, Design and Integration - Connectivity and Interoperability
- Safety, Security and Reliability
- Computing and Storage
- Process, Equipment, Materials and Manufacturing for ECS
PENTA and EURIPIDES² seek to support the creation of partnerships along the Electronics Components and Systems value chain, enabling the transition from research to commercial exploitation (TRL 2–8).
